Trauma Headquarters and ADSG

My daughter called me this evening.

Sweet grandson has been hospitalized. He is being life flighted to the Children's Hospital in Denver.  His blood counts are totally out of whack and they fear leukemia.

My daughter kept saying over and over "mama I need you".

Once they get settled, I will head to Denver to be there for her.

Please lift all of us up in prayer...especially my sweet grandson.

Sweet grandson will be three in September.

My daughter is four months pregnant.

Sweet grandson has been sick about a week. Will keep you all posted as I learn more.

My gut reaction is to drive down tonight.  But I am a nurse, and if this is leukemia, there is a long road ahead of us.  I need to think of this as a marathon, and use my time off to our best advantage.

I can be in Denver in 8 hours.

My heart aches for my daughter.  And is terrified for my grandson.

I am so sorry to hear about your grandson - but at the same time a bit happy that your daughter still knows who and what Mama really is. I hope your grandson has something easily fixable - and that your daughter doesn't forget, this time, that even a grown-up Mama still needs HER Mama.

Just seeing this Blessings!   As Kathleen said, hope it is something easily fixed.   And glad that SWPNL reached out to you!   You must be so worried.   Praying for a safe journey, wise doctors and healing (hearts and bodies.)   Please update when you are able.

Sweet grandson has had 4 units of blood today.  I have had one text from my daughter.  I think she is overwhelmed with her husbands family.

I am laying low. I think I will drive out on Monday and come back on Saturday.  That way my daughter will know more, her sister in law and brother in law will be back at work, and hopefully it won't be so overwhelming for my daughter.

Still not sure when I am going out.  My daughter texted last night and nicely asked if I could wait to come until they know for sure what is going on.

Of course I will heed her wishes.

She is in the hospital with her son, husband, his parents, and his sister and her husband. I do not need to add to the chaos.

SWP has spring break coming up the end of this month over Easter.  I think that she and I shall road trip to Denver if grandson is still in the hospital.  I will get us a lovely hotel with a pool, take SWP shopping at some of the fun malls there, schedule a trip to the Natural History Museum, things like that.  We will of course also be able to pop into the hospital to see my daughter and grandson, stay as little or long as my daughter wants, and then excuse ourselves and continue along our way.

Just have this feeling that I need to make my presence known at some point, or my daughter's inlaws might be able to convince her that I am not needed.

My daughter actually called today.  In the midst of crisis, a bright spot.

Sweet grandson is feeling better after the blood he got yesterday.

His blood results show 2% abnormal blood cells.  He is scheduled for a bone biopsy tomorrow.

The results will be available on Tuesday.

The doctors are ruling out leukemia.

My grandsons doctor back home diagnosed the swollen lymph nodes two weeks ago, chalked it up to the flu, and as recent as last Tuesday was telling my daughter that there was nothing wrong.  My daughter told me that she just had a feeling and kept pushing, and finally labs were drawn Friday and then my grandson was life flighted. 

I told her good job for trusting her instincts.

I sense a long journey ahead of us.

God is great!  He knows this lil boy is a blessing upon you all.

Just maybe His wisdom was needed for your daughter to SEE she still needs her momma.

My grandson has B cell acute lymphocytic leukemia.

Treatment will be 1 to 3 years.

It's going to be a long haul.

I can't imagine.  I pray you all will be overwhelmed with comfort from all the prayers.

I pick up the rental car tomorrow afternoon.

Keep in mind - and share with DD as you see fit - all that medical treatment can be trauma to a very young child, and can lead to some of the same effects and behaviors as in a child who has been abused and neglected.

I am very nervous about tomorrow.  I haven't seen my daughter in 11 months.

The last year she has been awful to me.  As have her husband and his family.  And tomorrow I am walking into the middle of them all.

I keep reminding myself that it isn't about me, it's about my grandson.

In true RADish form, we are acting as the past 11 months were not horrendous.

Considering the circumstances, that is ok.

My daughters husbands family has totally taken over.

I pray that is ok with her.

Hoping you have some healing time with your daughter, blessings.  I'm sure it must be awkward and difficult, but you seem to be good at handling things with grace.  How is your grandson doing?

My daughter and I spent the day together yesterday.

Learned a lot. It was awkward, but not confrontational.

Trauma bond trumps mama bond, and she is very accepting of the way her siblings treat me.

That being said, the siblings are in no way able to support her, so I will not have to contend with them.

My focus is supporting my daughter.  She hadn't been outside the hospital in three days when we left yesterday for a few hours.

My grandson is holding his own.  He is dreadfully sick. Between the disease process and the treatment, it is awful.  He is getting fantastic care, and we can only pray and get through this.  The process will take three years.
