10more,

I haven't read all the comments here, just your first post.

In high school and college I had a good friend who had many health issues, and was eventually diagnosed with lupus during college. during college she too had some weird stuff going on mentally (although she was also incredibly bright - eventually switched from Chem Eng to Pharmacy but was top of her class in each one; graduated summa cum laude)

That was back in the mid 80s. She married maybe ten years ago and they tried to have kids. No luck. Then a historectomy. One doc & various interns were chatting in her room discussing all her various odd symptoms (while she was still in hospital post-hys) and they decided to check for a Vitamin K deficiency.

Yep.

They treated that and ALL her lupus symptoms went away. Including the mental stuff (which I'm still not sure she ever even recognized herself).

I had been living in various other places and hadn't been in touch with her much, but saw her a year or two ago, which was ~ 3 years post-hys, and post-discovery. She was healthy, had not been sick in three years (and hospital stays were regular occurences prior to that) and very lucid and positive in her outlook. (previously she had seemed rather paranoid about a lot of things, and everything that was *wonderful* when she first started something (work, new friends) turned out to be horrible in about 3 months). I don't think I heard a negative word out of her that whole evening.

Maybe not the same for you - but it was such a freakishly miraculous turn-around I wanted to mention it.

As long as they're going to be drawing blood again, it certainly shouldn't be a problem to check that one out! Thank you so much. Her appointment is coming up soon with the specialist. Hopefully it won't be a problem to have her seen.

It was an interesting appointment!

The doc said the chance of lupus is low. She did prescribe a nitro cream to use the next time her hands get that bad, just a tad since her blood pressure is really low.  Also recommended taking her back to the heart specialist to rule out problems there that could be causing new issues, said her heart was "singing away." (very prominant s2 split she was listening to) We hadn't yet taken her to one since we moved because her last heart check was so good we were given a pass to not come back unless new symptoms showed up. Apparently that time is now...

Mixed blessings, but still going to keep her in our prayers.
