Yesterday morning, DH was caught off guard by a broken link to a 4" x 40' long tie down chain, holding a bulldozer down on the trailer. It hit him in the side and tossed him off the top of the trailer 10' to the pavement. He was on the Army base in TX when it happened so they took good care of him right away. Thanks to ALL at Ft. Hood! You are a blessing!
Anyway, they said that his shoulder has torn ligaments that may need surgery to repair. I have taken care of the lose ends in TX (storage for a tractor-trailer, etc.) and have him on the way home to AZ. He has his appt. at the Orthopedic Surgeons office Tues morning.
Just when we were getting back on our feet from our adult kids draining our finances with their lack of work, now this right before our 25th anniversary vacation! There is no way he can ride the Harley Davidson rally like this; his pride and joy.
When I told the DD's, the Sweetpea was great, but DD16 (RAD and ODD etc) went ballistic. "I have him home for a whole month? I can't do anything now! He already told me I'm grounded and I can't get around that if he's here!"
Not once did she think about the pain that DH is in.
Prayers for bith please. That DH has a speedy recovery without issue and that DD16 has the ability to find some caring in her,,,,someday.

I should add........DD16 is only 3 1/2 days out of RTC. She expects she can run her own life immediately, though she knows we will not trust in her choices for a long time. But she was already going behind our backs 2 hours after she released from RTC.

That is exactly the type of thing I fear. Something happening far from home. That's why I hate trucking some days.

No silver cloud I'm sorry to say. Right now DH is every bit a toddler. His injuries were much worse than we thought. He had trouble breathing Saturday so I ran him to ER again. His right ribs are cracked as well as the seperated right clavical/shoulder ligaments. Also his left thumb is broken.
He is stable now, but cannot do anything for himself; shower, towel dry, shave, get into/out of bed or a chair. He needs help to use the bathroom; everything.
He needs more care than the kids right now. We see the surgeon tomarrow morning. In the meantime, all the kids have been put on extra chores duty, including my DS26 so long as he is staying with us for a while. I'll keep working so we have a somewhat decent income until he returns to good health. The accident insurance has already kicked in, so I hope to have a CNA in the home by next week.

Oh no, I didn't realize he was still in crisis and mistakenly had the impression he was home recovering nicely. I'm sorry to hear he was so badly injured. This must be very taxing on all of you.... Warm thoughts headed your way!

Well, that was a bad appointment. The surgeon wants to wait until an MRI is done before scheduling the repair. He has to wait another 2 weeks or so. There goes our 25th wedding anniversary vacation in NM at the cabin. He wants to still go, but I just don't know about that. I really don't want the other couple we were going with, feeling obligated to stick around instead of enjoying the beautiful mountain grades on their Harley. I could drive the bike, but I am not comfortable with him on the back, noe would he be, and I don't want him near a motorcycle right now. Stubborn DH !!!!   Gotta love em' |
