Writing is definitely his toughest section. He gets some extra time, but it's still going to be a challenge. He has passed the other sections with flying colors; this is the last one.

We still have the little hurdle of him having to get enough work hours submitted to actually earn his HS diploma, but one thing at a time!

(BTW, if he passes all the GED sections but doesn't complete the work hours, the GED scores don't count towards a GED - he'd have to re-take the whole thing. So there's still plenty of opportunity for him to sabotage.)

Praying for him today.  Hopefully he will allow himself to succeed.  How soon will you find out the score?

I took the GED between my junior & senior years (did the whole thing in one long marathon session). At the time, it was explained that we would *never* know our score, because the scoring of the test was stopped the instant you had enough points to pass or couldn't miss enough to fail. I think the writing assignment at the end is their way of interjecting human opinion upon the outcome of an otherwise failed test.

Alsodad, here they get the scores for each subtest whether they do it in a marathon session with a paper test like my DD did a couple of years ago, or piece by piece on computer like DS is doing.

He thought he did well enough to pass. I'm not sure he's capable of judging, though. Scores will take 2-3 weeks, I think.

I'm curious, why is his GED dependent on work hours?

Missouri Options program
Students complete 3 classes - Government, Health, Personal Finance, and study for and pass the GED. While studying for the GED, they must be in school at least 15 hours / week and in school and work combined at least 30 hours / week. When they meet all the requirements, they earn a HS diploma (not a GED).

If they quit the program or fail to meet the requirements, the GED scores don't count towards a GED - they have to re-take it to get a GED.

OMG!!!!!

He just called to tell me he got the score in the mail and HE PASSED! (DD23 was there in the background so I have little doubt he's telling the truth - plus he sounded both happy and surprised, lol)

He says he scored 530 - only needed 410 to pass.

Happy dance!!!

Still need him to turn in his work hours, but part of his foot dragging on that may have been to have another excuse if he failed the writing portion, so maybe he'll get his butt in gear!

This would mean that both bio and all four adopted kiddos will be done with high school - one with a GED and five with diplomas. In the RAD world - huge success!

Kathleen,
That's wonderful!!!  You and Dh need to go out and celebrate!  Take a walk at sunset, snuggle on the couch, have a nice meal - anything! This is HUGE!

This is soooooo terrific!  Good for him and great for you and DH.  One more step in the right direction and, perhaps, motivation not to sabotage the work hours.
